Ultrasound and Laser Treatment

Ultrasound therapy involves the use of a probe to apply sound waves to an area to reduce inflammation and pain, and increase tissue healing.

Laser therapy can also be used for the treatment of crackled nipples during breastfeeding.

Ultrasound can be beneficial in reducing perineal pain, which is the area between your vagina and back passage, which is stretched and can tear during labour. It can also be beneficial in reducing inflamed and sore haemorrhoids.

It can also be used on breast tissue when there is a blocked duct or if that blocked duct progresses to mastitis. If antibiotics are required for infective mastitis, then ultrasound treatment can commence 24 hours following to help in reducing the blockage.

If it is a simple blocked duct, then ultrasound can be commenced immediately to help in resolving the blocked duct.

Laser therapy is also another form of treatment offered when women may be experiencing cracked nipples. The laser is applied over the crack or blister and it helps to provide rapid tissue healing. The laser is pain free and typically you don't feel anything whilst it is being performed.
